
Founded in 1502 by Christopher Colombus who, impressed by the richness of the flora and fauna, baptized it Costa Rica (Rich Coast). The Costa Rican culture is a reflection of the mixture of races which coexists in the country.

Geography
The Cordillera of Guanacaste, the Central Cordillera and the Cordillera of Talamanca are the principal mountainous areas, with altitudes reaching 2000 meters. The highest mountain is Cerro Chirripó, with 3819 meters. There are also several volcanoes (Volcano Arenal, Volcano Irazú, Volcano Rincón de la Vieja and Volcano Turrialba).
Costa Rica is also recognized for its long coasts on two oceans (the Atlantic and the Pacific), for its 20 natural reserves, its 8 biological reserves, its protected zones and a great number of rivers, which attract ecotourism amateurs and nature lovers from all around the world.
Climate
The climate of Costa Rica is very enjoyable, as much as in dry season (from December to April), than during the rainy season (from May to November). It is a tropical climate, with an average temperature of 22º C (72º F). At the time of the rainy season, the mornings are generally sunny.
Considering the short distances to cross over, it is frequent to pass from one climate to another in the same day.
VILLAS SUNSHINE, enjoys the dry season tropical climate, with temperatures oscillating between 26º C and 27ºC. It is not surprising that the province of Guanacaste attracts so many retiree and semi-retirees.
Banks and Currencies
There is in Costa Rica a great amount of public and private banks. All localities of certain importance have at least a banking agency. The official currency is the colón. Moreover, the US dollar is accepted in almost all hotels and restaurants. You can change dollars and travelers’ checks in banks and hotels. Major credit cards are largely accepted.

In Costa Rica, 97% of the territory has electric power. The voltage used in Costa Rica is, as in Canada and the United States, 110 V.
Costa Rica also has a national telecommunication advanced system, with telephone services available everywhere in the country. Consequently, many hotels and restaurants offer wireless Internet connection.
Transport
It is easy to travel through the country. The public transport is inexpensive. There are also bus services practically in all cities and villages of the country. Moreover, the coaches, who connect to main tourist areas, are of high quality. The taxi service is widespread and not expensive.
